Happy Sober Birthday To Me!

A birthday splash at Jervis Bay in New South Wales on a damp, grey day

Now, at closer to 60 than 50… there’s a thought… happy to report that it feels great to know you can go out and celebrate wildy with no danger of feeling crappola come morning. Relief, relief and thrice relief.

December and January have often been such danger zones, so many opportunities to drink as much as I have often wanted to all year… or even a bit more.

Excuses to have some let looses. But then, the depression, the guilt, the shame, the worry…

Free of it all today. And will be too tomorrow. You cannot put a price on that, except to say GOLD.

Lovely pressies, a swimming book, a swimming towel, breakfast in bed and then… a swim. We thought it would be a rain swim but in fact there were no actual raindrops, but plenty of wave splashes instead.

The beach is just a five-minute walk away from this holiday house. Grey, overcast, smoky and windy but kids and I didn’t care. We got into that salty water and we dived and swam and played. Hot showers fab afterwards, natch.

We had all built up an appetite for the massive, enormous grazing table that the girls set up for us all. Such care and such plentitude… and so much chocolate on top of the healthy stuff.

A movie and we are out to dinner with K and S tonight. But first, a veg out and an AF beer and if this is getting older, I am up for it.
